Belleville, New Jersey – Recognizing the cost effectiveness, flexibility and energy savings of cogeneration, the New York Association of Realty Managers (NYARM) recently presented a special seminar on the topic during its annual NYARM Expo in New York City. The panel discussion featured four top cogen experts, including Paul Errigo, director of business development for GREENCROWN Energy LLC, a full-service energy consulting company specializing in energy supply cost reduction and turnkey cogeneration systems development.
“Everything is getting smaller and more affordable in the cogen arena these days, which is great news for our members,” said Margi Russell, NYARM executive director. “Where you once needed acres for a cogeneration plant, the technology has progressed to the point where virtually every building in the city has plenty of room for its own cogeneration power plant. And that’s why we were so pleased to have GREENCROWN Energy and Paul at the Expo.”
For GREENCROWN Energy’s Paul Errigo, the opportunity to share the latest cost-saving data and practicality of cogeneration with NYARM members — who include real estate property managers, engineers and facilities directors — came at what he calls an extremely opportune moment.
“There’s never been a better time for New York and New Jersey facilities to take a serious look at cogeneration,” he said. “Not only can cogeneration slash energy costs by up to 65 percent, but there are robust federal and state grants and incentives available that will actually cover up to 70 percent of the costs of installing cogeneration. Talk about a win-win!”
A myriad of key cogeneration-related topics were discussed during the decades-old NYARM Expo, Errigo noted, including how to determine whether a property qualifies for cogeneration, the financial and environmental benefits of converting to cogeneration and why “on site” power production continues to be a huge concern for large buildings.
NYARM Expo attendees wanted to know the details behind generating electricity on site, he said, and how capturing “waste heat” could be used in a variety of cost-cutting applications. “When we explained how wasted heat is harnessed and turned into usable energy at no cost … and how they could get rid of their boilers and use heated water to keep their facilities warm — or use an absorption chiller to provide free air conditioning — they could see the many benefits at their own facilities,” Errigo pointed out.
One of the hot topics at the seminar, Errigo recalled, was how cogeneration can eliminate the immediate concern of a sudden, citywide power outage. “Aside from saving energy and cutting electricity bills big time, most people in attendance were also interested in reducing their company’s carbon footprint,” he said.
Russell, who believes it’s vital to have recognized experts in their field to keep NYARM’s members up to date on the latest cogen advances, said, “It’s obvious that GREENCROWN Energy is at the forefront of cogeneration technology. Given the relevance of cogeneration in today’s business environment and certainly going forward, companies like GreenCrown Energy will play an increasingly important role in our industry.”
Errigo added that GREENCROWN Energy LLC is always happy to share its expertise. “All somebody has to do is go to GreenCrownEnergy.com, and give me a call, and I’ll share the good news about cogeneration power either in person, before a group or over the phone,” he said.
